line + concept at MediaRuimte, Brussels

Preview: 24.04.2009 19h00-21h00  (concert Petersonic: 21h30- open end)
Exhibition: 25.04.-06.05.2009

The exhibition line + concept shows a range of plotterdrawings from 1965 to 1990s. It is a collaboration with MediaRuimte, the showroom of LAb[au], in the context of Art Brussels and takes place at: MediaRuimte, Lakensestraat 104 / 104 Rue de Laeken, BE- 1000 Brussels.

Artists: Frieder Nake, Manfred Mohr, Vera Molnar, Mark Wilson and Jean-Pierre Hébert

Plotterdrawings are based on an algorithm written by the artist which is the underlying concept of the work. The drawing is then executed by an ink pen, driven by the computer. This technique was used to create the early computer art works in the 1960/70s. But even nowadays, in the
age of inkjet and laser printers, there are still enthusiasts who use the plotter for creating art. The plotterdrawing added a new and unforeseen position to the field of drawings which were until then mostly done by hand. Unfortunately this technique has already become obsolete and it will not take long until the last line will be drawn by a plotter.

The exhibition is curated by Wolf Lieser of Gallery [DAM]Berlin.
